Jabar-USAID Collaboration, Improve Access to Drinking Water and Sanitation

Berita Jabar (Harapanrakyat.com),- The collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and USAID has been established for 5 years. This collaboration continues to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation for urban residents.

Through USAID’s support, there have been many improvements, especially in hygiene behavior, sanitation to the need for affordable water products. This collaboration has the program name IUWASH PLUS (Indonesia Urban Water Sanitation and Environmental Hygiene for All).

Boy Iman Nugraha, Head of West Java Housing and Settlement Head Office, said collaboration with USAID has brought major changes to the improving the quality of life of urban residents.

“This activity has increased access to safe drinking water and sanitation for vulnerable urban residents,” he said, Wednesday (29/9/2021).

Some of USAID’s support for West Java, one of which is the preparation of 10 new regulations to improve access to water and sanitation. There is also an assessment of action plans and vulnerability in the two regions with the support of regional leaders.

“USAID also encourages investment in supporting water and sanitation improvements from the APBD and the private sector with a value of Rp 122.5 billion. Also supports 4 local sanitation entrepreneurs in improving their businesses and services,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Brian Dusza, Director of the USAID Indonesia Environment Office, explained that his party is happy to continue to support the West Java Provincial Government to improve services. access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

“We have given access to 280 thousand people. 45 thousand people from low incomes and access to safe sanitation for 73,000 people for 5 regions. They are Depok City, Bekasi, Bogor and Karawang and Bogor Regencies,” explained Brian.

Since 2016, USAID has been improving safe drinking water and sanitation services for households, strengthening water service providers. Including increasing water conservation to encourage water funding. (R9/HR-Online)
