Months before Kanhaiya Kumar was formally inducted into the Congress, the former CPI leader had reportedly removed the AC installed by him in the CPI’s state office in Patna.

Former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar joined the Congress on Tuesday in the presence of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi. But two months before he confirmed his move to the Congress, Kanhaiya Kumar had reportedly removed the air conditioner (AC) he had installed in the CPI’s state office in Patna.Speculation had been going on for some time about the former Communist Party of India (CPI) leader’s future political move.CPI’s office in-charge Indu Bhushan Verma said that his man was staying in that room, adding that Kanhaiya Kumar took out the AC from the room two months ago.ALSO READ: Row over Kanhaiya, Jignesh joining Congress misplaced; ‘absence of ideology’ has long been party’s survival kitCPI leader Vijay Mishra said that Kanhaiya Kumar had sought permission from the party before removing the AC. The party said that this is your property, you can take it, Vijay Mishra said.“There was some stuff he took. He still has something similar lying in the room. This is not a big deal, Kanhaiya did a lot for the CPI. What is the big deal to carry a Rs 50,000 AC? That too his own,” Vijay Mishra said.Kanhaiya Kumar had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai on a CPI ticket. He, however, lost the election by 4 lakh votes to BJP’s Giriraj Singh.On Tuesday, Kanhaiya Kumar was formally inducted into the Congress at party headquarters in Delhi. The former CPI leader said the Congress was the country’s “most democratic party” and the only hope for the nation.Apart from Kanhaiya Kumar, independent MLA from Gujarat’s Vadgam constituency Jignesh Mevani also pledged support to the Congress, saying though he has not formally joined the party, he has joined its ideology.WATCH: Kanhaiya Kumar, Jignesh Mevani to join Congress today
