Ottawa firefighters douse Barrhaven basement fire

Firefighters were called to the house on Elke Drive, near Fallowfield Road, at 2:38 a.m.

Ottawa firefighters doused blaze in the basement of a home in Barrhaven early Saturday.

An unidentified person was taken into care by paramedics. There was no word on their condition.

Firefighters were called to the house on Elke Drive, near Fallowfield Road, at 2:38 a.m.

The occupant of the house had run to a neighbouring house to report a fire in the basement.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke conditions.

The fire was declared under control at 3:34 a.m.
