KSh 20K To Replace Passport, New Charges for Birth and Death Certificates

  • Replacing lost passports used to cost Kenyans KSh 12,000 before the new directive that requires one to pay KSh 20,000 for the same service

Kenya revises passport application charges

In a gazette of Monday, November 6, by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure, Kenyans will spend more to obtain the documents.

Notable in the changes are the increased charges Kenyans will pay for passports and identity cards, whereby Kenyans will begin paying KSh 1,000 to register for the national ID.

Replacing a national ID card, which used to cost KSh 100, will now cost Kenyans KSh 2,000, while passport processing charges will range between KSh 7,500 and KSh 15,000.

Replacing lost Kenyan passport

TUKO.co.ke also found out that the cost of replacing a lost passport had been increased from KSh 12,000, less the KSh 50 convenience fee, to KSh 20,000.

Replacing a mutilated valid Kenyan passport used to cost KSh 10,000, but the charge has been doubled to KSh 20,000.

A diplomatic passport of 50 pages, which used to cost KSh 7,500, will now cost KSh 15,000, according to the notice by Kindiki.

Service passport charges have not been varied, and individuals will pay KSh 6,000 to get the document.

Birth certificate charges in Kenya

In the new directive, registering births and deaths will cost Kenyans KSh 200. Processing the documents used to cost KSh 50.

Late registration of birth and death certificates used to cost KSh 150, but the fee has been increased by over two times, and Kenyans will pay KSh 300 for each of these services.

Registration of births in Kenyan missions abroad used to cost 50 US dollars, but this amount has been increased to 150 US dollars.
