Defeat was always inevitable.
Australia thrashed the Proteas women in the once-off Test to win by an innings and 284 runs in Perth on Saturday, but, in the end, the Proteas made the hosts fight hard to wrap up victory on day three as their belated obstinacy frustrated the Baggy Greens in the 37-degree Celsius heat at the iconic WACA.
