A total of 16 people were killed and 1,756 others injured, including 79 seriously, in 1,371 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022.
These accidents are mainly due to the carelessness of the drivers , speeding, failure to respect priority, inadvertence of pedestrians, failure to respect the safety distance, change of direction without use of a signal, unauthorized change of direction, failure to respect the stop sign, failure to control vehicles, failure to respect traffic lights, traffic in the prohibited direction and in the left lane, driving under the influence of alcohol and faulty overtaking , said the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) in a press release.
Concerning the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services established 36,565 tickets and issued 6,671 minutes submitted to the prosecution, while 29,894 transactional fines were collected.
The sums collected for fines reached 6,288,800 dirhams, added the press release, reporting the municipal impoundment of 3,775 vehicles, the seizure of 6,671 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 212 vehicles.
