In the animal shelter on the Birs, two guinea pigs were found on Monday. You have been exposed.
The two guinea pigs were found by attentive people on Monday, January 3, 2022 at around 8 a.m. in a cage at the Rappoltshof in Basel, writes the animal shelter on the Birs in a message. The animals were released. The Basel-Stadt veterinary office then brought the animals to the animal shelter.
Medical care
In the shelter it was noticed that the animals had roughened skin have large bald spots. This would indicate that they are suffering from extreme itching, the shelter wrote. The guinea pigs received medical care and a massive mite infestation was diagnosed.
