Annihilation writer and director Alex Garland is teaming up with A24 to make Civil War, a film about a near future American civil war that stars The Power of the Dog and Spider-Man’s Kirsten Dunst.
Alongside Dunst, this new film will also star Narcos’ Wagner Moura, Dune’s Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny.

Garland will write the screenplay for Civil War, and it will be produced by A24, Gregory Goodman, and DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich.
Dunst, who many will remember as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, recently starred in The Power of the Dog as Rose Gordon alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

Dunst also starred in the USS Callister episode of Black Mirror, Hidden Figures, Fargo, and more.
Garland himself received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing, Original Screenplay for Ex Machina, and he won an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects for the film.
In addition to writing and directing the Hulu miniseries Devs, he has been a big name in the video game world as he co-wrote Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, was a story supervisor on DmC: Devil May Cry, and wrote a script for a canceled Halo movie in 2005.
